Living Labs: Open, User-led and Design-driven innovation ecosystems

Thursday 25th of August from 9h00 to 10h30

“A call for both well-established and aspiring Living Labs integrating design as part of their methodologies”

Design for Europe, a EU strategic initiative on design-driven innovation, and ENoLL organise a session on design and living lab methodologies on the 25th of August at 9am.

We invite both members and newcomers interested in living labbing and design to join the workshop. Design-driven and user-driven activities are strongly linked, compatible and often merged by Living Labs in their daily operations. Workshop participants come to explore how design-driven innovation is integrated in the Living Lab processes of ENoLL members. Final goal is to produce collaboratively a comprehensive map/digest showing in which sectors Living Labs have already applied design methods, including hot potatoes, lessons learnt and best practices.

9-9.15am: Around the room introductions
9.15-10.30am: Fight forum – How does design-driven innovation help co-create new opportunities in Living Labs for societal and economic prosperity? Hot potatoes, lessons learnt, tales of success
10.25-10.30am: Conclusions

The fight forum is a moment of discussion on the contribution given by design to improve Living Lab practices and help reach users in a strategic, profitable way. This exercise is a mix of case studies presented by Living Labs and opinions shared by audience during an open-to-all round table. The audience is asked to engage in lively discussion and brainstorm ideas on some provocative questions like:

– What challenges do Living Labs face when incorporating design in their operations?

– Do the from-A-to-Z design and innovation tools actually work in a real-life scenario?

– Can service design really help companies make more money?

Design for Europe is a 3-year strategic initiative to help implement the European Commission’s Action Plan for Design-Driven Innovation. The foundation stone for this is the creation of a tailored web platform and an associated programme of knowledge sharing events, conferences, training, and peer-to-peer support. Watch this video to know more.
