We are very excited to host the JamToday GameJam Showcasing session on DAY 2 of Open Living Lab Days.
JamToday supports the creation, implementation and deployment of educational games by creating methods and tools and by providing a central learning hub for participating organisations that will ensure that stakeholders maintain a balanced understanding of the main issues, and the implementation hurdles that need to be overcome.
Besides the GameJam scope, JamToday’s Participatory game design inspired the framework of the Challenges and Networking activities happening on OpenLivingLab Days 2016.
About GLAMGames (Girls Learning About Math) GameJam and the winner team:
After joining the JamToday network, this May Carleton University (1125@Carleton) hosted its first GameJam, following the JamToday Toolkit’s guidelines. Motivated by IBM’s movement in encouraging young girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), the organisers have fine tuned the GameJam challenge to focus on designing games to support grade 6, 7, & 8 girls in learning math.
The winner team – TO2 with their mentors – will share their experience and introduce the best game from the GLAMGames GameJam:
What is MATIKA MATE and how to play it
Matika Mate is an Android two player game to practice grades 6,7 & 8 math skills. Challenge your mates with a race to answer the most problems correctly and brush up on your math skills while you’re doing it. Learn about significant women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, unlock new games as you complete the levels, and earn trophies along the way!
Have fun preparing for math tests without even realizing it. The first version of Matika Mate has two games for studying Geometry (Nets and Classifying shapes) and one game for Measurement (calculating perimeter, area and volume).
